What: AGU is teaming up with Future Earth’s Anthropocene Magazine to take its acclaimed science fiction series “The Climate Parables” from the page to the stage.

Wind down at the end of the day with a drink (cash bar) and join us for this extraordinary storytelling event.

The idea behind it is simple and powerful: The climate crisis is not just a crisis of technology, but also one of imagination—and part of the solution is to create more plausible, science-based visions of a future in which humanity gets its arms around some aspect of climate change. 

The performance features several of our best stories set in the future, including tales by Kim Stanley Robinson, Eliot Peper, and Mark Alpert, performed by master storytellers and accompanied by stunning animations, a live string quartet, and more.

The evening wraps up with a conversation we’re calling “The Science Behind the Fiction.” Renowned science fiction writer Kim Stanley Robinson and The Economist Editor Oliver Morton will discuss the stories, their technological feasibility, and political and economic hurdles.
