"Burak Güneralp is an Assistant Professor in the Geography Department at Texas A&M University. With an interdisciplinary background in systems analysis, environmental sciences, and human-environment geography, his research focuses on how urbanization interacts with broader socio-economic and biophysical changes across space and over time. Dr. Güneralp’s research has been funded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Texas Sea Grant, and the Nature Conservancy. He has published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Nature Sustainability, and Global Environmental Change. He has served as a coordinating lead author for the United Nations Cities and Biodiversity Outlook, the first comprehensive global assessment of the links between urbanization, biodiversity, and ecosystems. He has also participated as editor, lead or contributing author to the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Global Assessment of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services as well as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 5 th Assessment Report and 6 th Assessment Report. His work is featured widely including in Scientific American, the Atlantic, the Guardian, and the Washington Post."
