Vacancy: Strategic Communications Lead (Sweden Hub)

Future Earth is looking for an experienced science communicator to lead the communications activities of the Global Hub in Sweden. The position is a permanent position based at Future Earth in Stockholm.
Future Earth is an interdisciplinary research network developing knowledge to tackle the biggest challenges of our time – climate change and sustainability. Our mission is to advance research to support transformations to global sustainability. The Swedish Global Hub forms part of the distributed secretariat which supports the network in collaboration with 8 other global hubs across the world. For example, the Swedish office leads research synthesis activities such as the Earth Commission and the 10 New Insights in Climate Science. The appointed person will work closely with Future Earth colleagues in Sweden and around the world as well as external international partners.
Responsibilities
Strategic communications leadership. Further develop and implement a comprehensive strategic communications plan for the activities of the Swedish Global Hub, including work across traditional, digital and social media. Assess the impact of the communications activities. Develop, manage, and implement the communications budget, including engaging in resource mobilization. Nurture relationships across the Future Earth secretariat and with key partners on communications activities.
Events and science-policy engagement. Lead the development and delivery of science-policy strategic engagements and events, with support from the broader team.
Content development and management. Develop engaging and accurate written material from complex scientific content. Publish across a variety of platforms. Develop visual and multimedia products, in collaboration with designers and scientific experts for various channels. Strategically oversee and develop websites and social media in collaboration with a contracted digital agency.
Press and media engagement: Develop relationships with Swedish and international journalists, conduct press engagement to achieve media impact for Future Earth research and activities.
Supplier Relationship management. Identify and manage consultants to advance communications activities and manage contracts for services.
Skills and experience
- At least ten years’ experience working in science communication, preferably with a focus on international activities and the science-policy interface.
- Excellent writing skills in English and the ability to convert academic jargon into engaging and accurate written and visual storytelling for relevant audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective and trusting working relationships with colleagues in research, communications and administration.
- Leadership skills including proven experience in multicultural teams in an international environment.
- Excellent track record of communications project management including budget management, measuring impact and balancing stakeholder relationships
- Fluency in English is essential, Swedish or other languages are an advantage.
- Experience of proposal writing and fundraising is an advantage.

Other
Permission to work in Sweden is required. International travel, and willingness to lead and participate in regular international virtual meetings, some outside of normal working hours, are required for this position.
