International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies

Today, 7 September, is the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies. Launched by the UN General Assembly in 2019, it champions the increasing interest in clean air and the need to improve air quality. More than 99% of people breathe unsafe air, and exposure can lead to stroke, heart and lung disease, cancer, and more, according to the United Nations Environment Programme.

Future Earth’s purpose is to identify and generate the integrated knowledge needed for successful transformations toward societies that provide good and fair lives for all within a stable and resilient Earth system. Access for all to clean air is a key component of fulfilling that purpose.
