The Future Earth Regional Office for Southern Africa (FEROSA) is hosted by the National Research Foundation of South Africa and has a Southern Africa regional remit, with the possibility of eventually having a continent-wide remit.
Launched in October 2018, the Future Earth Regional Office for Southern Africa (FEROSA), is the Southern African regional centre for Future Earth. Its mandate spans sixteen (16) countries in the Southern Africa region. FEROSA is hosted by the National Research Foundation (NRF) in South Africa and is managed by a Secretariat and a Steering Committee composed of members from the region.
In February 2020, FEROSA hosted a regional Stakeholder Platform. The stakeholder platform was attended by over seventy (70) delegates from eleven (11) African countries.
The main outcomes from the Stakeholder Platform included the finalisation of the MoU between the National Research Foundation (NRF) as the host of FEROSA and the Future Earth global secretariat, the presentation of the FEROSA operational framework, and the constitution of the FEROSA Steering Committee.
Current Activities
- FEROSA is in the process of developing its five year strategic plan, which will cover the period (2021 – 2025).
- FEROSA will undertake a regional situational analysis that will look at the state of the regions sustainability and environmental research landscape.
