Future Earth Spain was created in June 2014 merging the activities of the National committees of DIVERSITAS, the International Geosphere – Biosphere Programme (IGBP), and the International Human Dimension Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP), and including activities of the Global Climate research Programme (WCRP).

The main objective of the national committee is to generate and disseminate scientific knowledge to accelerate the transformation of our society towards a sustainable world. The committee will explore and increase understanding on the links among global environmental change, human well-being and development. Other objects of interest include exploring the role of ecosystems services and biodiversity in maintaining the current stability of the Earth system, predicting risks, and anticipating thresholds.
